Wolff grew up
in the swamps of
Chuluota
,
Florida
, swimming with moccasins, dancing with dragonflies, absorbing the art of the
wild. His first word was "Light" and he learned to paint before he
learned to walk. After exploring traditional media, Wolff drew on his knowledge
of organic chemistry to create a highly-textured, vitreous surface reminiscent
of the swampscape of his childhood. He calls this style Primordialism, after
the primordial waters whose surface embodies both sinking and emergence, life
and death, evolution and mythology, acquiescence and renaissance. In many of his
pieces, he embeds a piece of nature, which he calls a New Fossil.
Wolff was appointed OFFICIAL ARTIST OF THE MILLENNIUM by
ARTEXPO South Miami. This honor placed Wolff’s painting Autumn Mask at
the forefront of a two million dollar advertising campaign. Autumn Mask
was purchased by baseball legend Andre’
Dawson
for five thousand dollars. Wolff is no stranger to famous collectors. His
artwork hangs in the private collections of Pulitzer Prizewinning Author Frank
McCourt (Angela’s Ashes), Billionaire attorney Willie Gary (Owns Two
Paintings), Astronomical Engineer Richard Kupczyk (Ground Crew Director for
NASA’s Apollo Missions), former Poet Laureate Billy Collins and Rock Star
Manager Jorge Camaraza (Shakira). He has sold almost a thousand large pieces
through shows and galleries, and has exhibited at many prestigious events,
including ARTEXPO
NEW YORK
in
Manhattan
.
As a self-taught artist, Wolff is perennially evolving in
directions dictated by imagination rather than academic tradition. He earned a
bachelor’s degree in Natural Science from
New
College
(The Honors College of Florida) and spent 1998 in
Aberdeen
,
Scotland
, where he painted and exhibited his artwork. In
Scotland
, Wolff also studied electromagnetism and worked as a professional modern dancer
in City Moves Dance Company.
Wolff’s written works have been acclaimed almost as much as
his paintings. He has published in dozens of literary anthologies, including the
Mid-American Review, Folio, The Madison
Review,
California
Quarterly, and Byline. Wolff’s words have been praised by established writers
including former Poet Laureates Robert Pinsky and Mark Strand. Wolff’s first
book of poetry THE ORPHANAGE OF IMAGINATION was recently published, and his
third novel, PHARAOHS OF AMERICA is currently being agented by Stephanie
Lee of Manus and Associates (Agents of Oprah book
Cane
River
). In 2006, Wolff was dubbed, “The Hurricane Poet,” in multiple news
articles focusing on both the torrential power of his words and their connection
to his primordial home state.
